I may not fall into the " normal" catagory in terms of struggling through menopause. Mine occurred about 25 yrs ago, so yes, my family Dr put me on prempro for a couple of years, which I took without question, but then stopped taking it as I educated myself about the drugs. Anyway, I did not have the symptoms that many of my friends were having. I actually had a very positive and accepting attitude toward menopause. I found it to be a blessing in my life, kinda like you have said, an awakening and growing experience. It was a time when I started lookling at life on a much deeper level, feeling more free and empowered. I found it to be a time of focusing on my inner wisdom. I recall the words of Dr Clarissa Pinkola Estes, who wrote " Women Who Run With the Wolves" which was about connecting with our natural wisdom and instincts. And Dr Northrup, I totally agree with you that it is a wonderful time in our lives to learn and grow and not to see it as a curse, but as a blessing and a time of spiritual awakening just like you are comparing it to what our country and world is going through now. And yes, there were uncomfortable moments just like going through any transformation, but they are so worth it.

I love listening to you! Could you please please give me your perspective: I’m in menopause, 58yrs old, and haven’t slept more than 4 hours at night for the past few years and also have hot flashes. Because of an estrogen positive breast cancer diagnosis 8 years ago I’m staying away from any hormonal products. Am I doing the right thing? Could I at least use a progesterone cream or something to help me sleep? Thank you so much.
