Fyi…I put a spoonful of dog poison (xylitol) in my morning tea, eat 1-2oz of dog poison (dark chocolate) nightly. Dogs aren’t humans, and neither are rats. What may be toxic to one species is not necessarily toxic to another.

Many rodenticide companies are moving away from the anti-coagulants and using vitamin d instead. I am a veterinarian and this is a toxicity issue in smaller pets. I recently had a patient who got into his 'person's' vitamin D and ended up hospitalized with acute renal compromise and hypercalcemia. This little guy was only 9lb and the product consumed was 2000IU per drop, so we don't know the dose.

Humans, being bigger, are obviously less susceptible to overdoses.

Yeah!!! Loved the rebuttal! I read the substack about vit D. At first I thought, oh no. Then started to really think about it and decided it was probably bs. I also was on Dr Merritt’s website and saw she had Vit D. Dr Gundry also has Vit D on his website. I take 5000 iu and more during the winter months. I will continue to take it. Thank you to both Dr N and Dr Merritt 🥰

Thank you both for the clarification (ie, truth). I was not even aware of the fear mongering about Vit D, so I have been taking it on regular basis. My favorite sentence in Dr Merrit's rebuttal was that if you coated vit D with sugar and fed it to the rats you would end up with more rats than you started with! (and I'm pretty sure they would be even healthier...haha). I'm so glad we have you doctors who care about our well-being!

ok ...so laboratories state the FATAL dose of cholecalciferol in a rat is 80 units/kg. So take your weight and divide by 2.2 to get your kilograms...then multiply by 80 to get a toxic dose for humans...Unless you weigh a LOT the dose will be way under 10,000 units. DID YOU ACTUALLY READ THE SUBSTACK IN QUESTION as the point was MOST HUMANS ARE OVERDOSING.I have taken 10,000 units of D w K2 for MANY YEARS and was wondering why I had 2 little "calcium rocks" come out of my skin , one from my finger and one from my foot...so it seems my body was trying to rid itself of EXCESS CALCIUM...buyer beware folks...

40 years of experience in trench medicine (primary care) has taught me that medicine could not survive it it were not for the fear that it generates. Make it simple get a D level and combine D3 with K2 which keeps the calcium stored in the bone. There are a number of SNPs and many other factors that alter vit D metabolism (like low cholesterol) but what is clear is that those with low vit D are inherently unhealthy.

I appreciate the information but am surprised by the egotism. Info on its own from an esteemed and experienced physician carries its own energy. Thank you

The ONLY reason it is rat poison is because they do not synthesize it. They are nocturnal creatures for a reason. We depend on the sun and thus proper vitamin D levels which are not easy for some of us to convert through sunshine alone.

also, has anyone looked at all the FILLERS in a pile of "necessary supplements "? That D article on SS got me lookin at all the stuff in these capsules...seems questionable so I pared down and ordered Raw, food based organic supplements to take for a while and see if it effects my chronic pain. Luckily I own a mercola sun wall so I will do the 5 min 3x wk for D.

I know that the sun actually raises vitamin D optimally. Dr Michael Holick of Boston U has done many experiments using sun exposure. It is a winner. Which is another reason why blocking the sun has got to stop!!!
